Austrian food and beer just fit. Malt-forward lagers from a proper Brauhaus go with schnitzel, goulash, Tafelspitz, and the rest. The best way to get that combo is a brewery restaurant that does both. Our Vienna Brewery Guide has the big picture; here it’s about pairings and where to go.
What works with what
Viennese lager and Märzen go with most Austrian mains—the malt stands up to the richness, the finish clears the palate. For the classics: Wiener schnitzel and beer and beer and goulash. Dunkles is great with roast meats and stronger flavours.
Where to get both
A traditional brewery restaurant: house beer and a menu built for it. Fischerbräu in Döbling (Billrothstraße 17) does exactly that—Schnitzel, Tafelspitz, strudel, and Helles, Dunkles, seasonal specials. Lunch at weekends from noon, dinner every day they’re open.
